Demo Web Site Walk Through

Introduction

This wiki page walks you through a demonstration of our service. To do this we use a "Dummy Bank" website. This is a pretend website that produces documents that are signed - so you can download them and then check if they are authentic. This allows you to easily see how simple the full workflow is.

Accessing the demonstration website

Go to: https://dummybank.umpint.com/

This represents a bank / utility / government agency that issues documents (e.g. statements / ID cards / payslips - any document that you might want to be able to prove is authentic).

To login you can enter any username and password - it is not very secure - as is only for demonstration purposes.

Download a document

You can now download a document - in this case you can download either a PDF or a simple TXT file that is a statement of your balance at the pretend Bank.

Once you download one of these document you can now go to the main https://umpint.com website and check if they are authentic or not.

Check if authentic - via web site

Go to the https://umpint.com website:

Then drag and drop the file you downloaded into the box in the middle of the screen. You will then see this:

This shows that it is authentic according to the web site owner listed in this case dummybank.umpint.com. Note is is critical to check that this is EXACTLY the web site address you are expecting - much like you should check the web site address before you enter your username/password.

If you just wanted to check the authenticity you can stop now. However if you want proof - e.g. you are a solicitor and at some point in the future your regulator might investigate you and ask if you had validated a customers address before undertaking work - then you would want to have this proof in you records to then provide them. Enter your name, your email a description (e.g. the client identifier), whether you want the timestamp (see below) and if you want us to include filenames on the certificate. The click Submit.

The Certificate of Authenticity

Below is the 1st page of the certificate.

As you can see it includes the information you entered. As before it is critical to check that the URL matches who you are expecting the document to be from. If this is not the case the document is not actually authentic.

Full details of the certificate and how it is created and the mathematics that support it are here: Certificate Details.

Checking by email

To check by email all you need to do is email the documents to bot@check.umpint.com. As soon as we received them we will check and reply with the result and certificate if they are authentic. Again when you get the email check the website address matches the one you are expecting.
